Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor known for her performance as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. When she got married, she changed her name to Nikki Kodjoe. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since childhood and received a Best Actress award at the Maryland high school contest. She received her degree in acting at New York University after working in the Washington Ballet Company' as well as in theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, her first role in a feature film earned her a lot of respect. Then came movies like 'Boogie Nights Spark & Blue Streak. Contractor was born in Mumbai and resided in Nigeria for seven years had a wide range of cultural experiences and travels at an early age. Her education was at the boarding school of London between the ages of 7 and 9. Later, her family relocated away from London to Toronto, Canada. When she was in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become a classical ballerina. She was a student at an Etobicoke School of the Arts which is a highly specialized public arts high school, where she did not only dance but also studied theatre. Contractor took the decision to study acting more seriously at the age of 16, after ten years dancing. She received a full-scholarship grant to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. There she earned her master's in theatre, and double majored in psychology and social science. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the show Pericles at the prestigious and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the role of lead. Her performance was lauded throughout the 92 productions which she was a part of. She was awarded the award in 2002 for the most outstanding production of the Year by Canadian Critics. Contractor accepted an invitation to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females accepted for a 20-week intensive course in the classical theatre. Contractor got a confirmed spot for the following season, and was offered the role as Hermia.
